Carol Westby: 2020 Frank R. Kleffner Lifetime Clinical Career Award from ASHF
Carol Westby, PhD, CCC-SLP, BCS-CL, received the Frank R. Kleffner Lifetime Clinical Career Award from ASHF this year. She has published and presented nationally and internationally on play, theory of mind, language-literacy relationships, ADHD, narrative/expository development and facilitation, screen time, understanding and working with children and families who have experienced trauma, and issues in assessment and intervention with culturally/linguistically diverse populations. She is a Fellow of ASHA, has received the Honors of ASHA, and the ASHA Award for Contributions to Multicultural Affairs.
Dr. Westby has been principal investigator on a number of clinical service, research, and personnel preparation grants, including Project LIGHTS that prepared SLPs, psychologists, and special educators to serve children with autism, Project BRIDGE that prepared graduate students to work within classrooms to facilitate language-literacy development of Hispanic and Native American children, and Project PLAY that trained caregivers to increase the quality and frequency of interactions that promote development of theory of mind and language. She currently supervises clinical fellows.
