Judy Montgomery and Barbara Moore were honored on October 19, 2009, at the annual Leadership in
Language and Literacy Conference by being awarded the Annie Glenn National Leadership Award for
Best Practices in Speech-Language Pathology.

The Annie Glenn National Leadership award was first presented to Annie Glenn in June, 2003.  The
award was created to recognize individuals who exemplify excellence in leadership, specifically to those
who are committed to innovative change. At The Ohio State University Annie Glenn serves as an adjunct
professor in Department of Speech and Hearing Science and a representative of the John Glenn School
of Public Affairs.  It is in these roles and her life long community service work that she continually
demonstrates outstanding leadership characteristics. In 2003, Annie was honored for achieving
distinction for her inspirational leadership by having the first “Annie Glenn National Leadership Award for
Best Practices in Speech-Language Pathology” not only named for her but also being the first recipient of
this distinguished award.

During the 2009 awards ceremony Annie Glenn while accompanied by Senator John Glenn shared the
following comments about Judy and Barbara.  “Receiving the Best Practices Award is truly an outstanding
accomplishment in the field of Speech-Language Pathology, especially in the area of Leadership.  Both
recipients have been selected for their long, dedicated and unrelenting support of persons with
communication disorders.  In addition, their innovative initiatives have been extensive and their leadership
exemplary.  Leadership has many characteristics.  Sometimes, it is the courage to express bedrock
beliefs.  Sometimes it is being there for others whatever the cost. Sometimes it is just insisting upon doing
things right.  In all these “sometimes’, we think of this year’s two recipients:  Judy Montgomery and
Barbara Moore.  We want to thank you for this leadership that you have given to the discipline of Speech
and Language Pathology.”

Congratulations to Judy and Barbara.
